Project Highlights
Here are some of the most recent projects I've worked on.
Semiconductor Manufacturing Documentation
I manage the entire documentation set and strategy for a 20 person facilities engineering team, supporting a global company of 4,000+ people. I work on an even blend of standard operating procedures/engineering operating procedures (SOPs/ EOPs), training documentation, engineering specifications, and piping and instrumentation and engineering diagrams (P&IDs). These documents are primarily used by Facilities teams at a global level, but also by other users who need to refer to them. In addition to documentation, I lead training efforts across the organization for how to write high-quality procedures. Lastly, I lead a global community for technical writers that provides mentorship, drives towards consistent documentation standards across the company, and facilitates peer reviews.
Standard Operating Procedures and Engineering Operating Procedures
I specialize in Facilities operating procedures, which tell users how to use, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as toxic gas monitoring systems, compressed dry air systems, and deionized water systems.
Documentation Training Initiatives
I developed and delivered training for Facilities engineers at multiple company sites that walks them through best practices for writing procedures and checklists they can use as a reference tool.
Leading the Technical Writer Community
When I first started at this company, I noticed there was no central organization for technical writers to organize and collaborate through. I built the community that we now use to collaborate, mentor, and review through.
Cloud-Based Property Management Application
I authored documentation for a brand-new property management system for a small organization. This documentation helped provide on-screen assistance to users and guide them through the appropriate workflow for their chosen tasks. I also authored how-to guides and tutorials for new users learning about the system when onboarding.
OpenSearch Data Open-Source Analytics Platform
OpenSearch is an open-source, enterprise-grade search and observability suite that brings order to unstructured data at scale. I mainly focused on documentation supporting Data Prepper, which you can check out here. I also supported some of the documentation for Dashboards, which I really enjoyed because it was something I had many uses for outside of work.
Defense Program
I supported a team of experienced technical writers on a defense radar sustainment and modernization program. I also mentored junior and mid-level writers seeking direction and development.
Technical Orders
The majority of the work I built for this project were technical orders (SOPs or technical manuals built for a defense customer) supporting operation, maintenance, sustainment and modernization of radar and early warning station systems.
Confluence and Teams Spaces
During the pandemic, I identified many knowledge gaps and learning opportunities for our team to prevent loss of information. Most of our trainings were scattered on a shared drive or passed along verbally, so I built a Confluence space for our team, architected the hierarchy and structure, and authored articles to capture all procedural and training information. Another opportunity our team had underutilized was Microsoft Teams. I set up a team, architected the hierarchy and structure and taught our team how some best practices on how to fully utilize it. This allowed the team to share files, set up meetings more easily, and collaborate more effectively.
This is a recurring theme for the work I have done on many projects. I'm a firm believer in ensuring information is broken out of silos and accessible to the right people at the right time, so I take on this work if it has not been built in a project I'm working on.
Insurance Technology Documentation
I led documentation team initiatives supporting 100+ distributed employees and small team of technical writers. I authored all documentation from the ground-up, based on interviews with developers and viewing demonstrations of the product.
Demilitarization Project
I worked with a cross-functional team of technical writers to author documentation that was compliant for our federal government customer. I also created internal training documents and regularly interacted with piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) as well as engineering diagrams.
Semiconductor Manufacturing Documentation
I worked with a cross-functional team of technical writers to author documentation for internal customers (engineers and technicians) to perform engineering tasks, preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
